Granite countertops are the
perfect remodeling solution

First off Galaxy Granite & Marble Company is a full service fabricator
and installer of stock, or custom cut granite counter tops in either residential or
commercial kitchens. Granite is not only the hardest material available for
countertops; it's also the most expensive, with many contractor firms pricing real granite
tops starting at over $50 a square foot. Our standard pricing starts at only $34.95/ sq.
ft. Though adding granite countertops to any kitchen can be quite costly, they remain the
premiere choice in many new and remodeled homes. The beauty and warmth real granite offers
more then just lasting value. It offers an aesthetic appeal to any home or commercial
kitchen that can't be found in other countertop materials.... period!
Granite does cost more than other countertop materials, with the majority
of the price coming from cutting and installation labor costs. Installing granite
countertops is not a project for the typical do-it-yourself homeowner, seeking to save
money on installation costs. Installation must be left to the professionals like Galaxy
Granite, who have the experienced personal and cutting equipment to give guaranteed
results to kitchen make-overs.. However, a homeowner can save money on some of the
preliminary preparation and demolition work. Before the process of installing granite
countertops can begin, range tops, the sink and the old countertops must be thoroughly
measured and removed. The remainder of the installation process should be left to
professionals to avoid costly disasters.
After completing your kitchen granite countertop order, a Galaxy staff
member will come to precisely measure the cabinetry and
create templates for the installation. At the time the templates are created, the
professional should be able to tell you where all the seams will be. The fewer seams, the
better, as regardless of how well the joint is fitted, straight lines in the natural stone
are very noticeable. At this time they will determine the sink and range cutouts and
kitchen counter overhangs.
Prior to the installation, metal rods and new plywood can be added to the
top of the cabinetry to create a strong, level surface with additional support for the
sink and range. This is a critical step, as even support prevents the granite slab from
breaking during regular use. Success of a granite countertop installation includes
attention to the varying thickness of a slab. Although slabs are carefully cut, there may
be high and low spots on the bottom; therefore, leveling is an important step of the
preparation process to protect the stone.

Our installers will later bring the stock or custom cut granite slabs that
are precision cut back in our workshop. The slabs can weigh hundreds of pounds and must be
properly carried to reduce stress on the slab during transport. If the granite is not
carefully laid on the cabinetry, it could crack at a later time during regular use. Our
installation service truck has a complete on-site workshop inside for last minute
adjustment cuts and splash guard fittings.
The slab of granite will be precisely cut with a diamond tip saw or
water-jetting system to fit the templates. The jointing seams will be sealed and the edge
will be treated to create a smooth, attractive perimeter. The installer can add any
requested trim inlays, such as metallic materials or separate indications of a solid
color. The Galaxy installers will then apply a penetrating sealer and polish the surface
to a smooth reflective finish upon project completion.
Trained installers will note the positioning of electrical outlets, the
sink, and the faucets, as the thickness of the granite may alter some of the process for
re-installation of these items with carpentry adjustments. Our staff are trained to make
adjustments for setting a cook top and re-securing the dishwasher stabilizer brackets
without causing harm to the newly laid granite countertop. The expertise required for
installing granite countertops requires that this be one job left to the professionals
like Galaxy Granite & Marble Company in Sterling Heights Michigan.
When properly installed, granite countertops are a beautiful and valuable addition to any
home or restaurant/cafeteria kitchen.
The popularity of granite kitchen countertops has increased dramatically
in recent years, with the media focus on kitchen remodeling and personal incomes rising.
Originally the choice for granite countertops was limited to wealthy individuals. Today,
homeowners of moderate means choose granite countertops for their durability as well as
beauty. In addition to their utility and longevity, granite kitchen countertops are one of
the few home improvements that maintain their value over the years. Typically, any
appliances, flooring or cabinetry decisions will only add about twenty-five percent of
their retail value to the appraisal value of a home. Not so with granite countertops,
fireplace mantles, bathrooms or flooring. In addition to long term value, the beauty and
warmth of granite makes it an ideal material for aesthetic appeal among homeowners and
interior designers.

We perform on-site custom fitting as our Service Truck has room for
cutting and stone machining systems inside for last
minute adjustments. Non standard configurations such as compound complex curves can result
in additional charges and our trained stone cutters just love the special cutting
challenges our customers. If you wish us to do the sink cutouts and polish the edges for
an under mount sink will added $275 per cutout, inclusive of up to three plumbing holes.
Installation quotes can include reinforcing or modifying the support
structure for the granite top. In addition to a 3/4 inch thick plywood subcounter you will
want a moisture barrier between the granite and the wood. A vulcanized rubber paint, for
example, works just fine as does plastic sheeting. The idea here is you don't
want any moisture or water getting into the subcounter and rotting or mildewing. Our field
staff can advise you on this add-on service.
All jobs include surface cleaning and application of a granite sealant.
We can do annual surface maintenance or sell you sealant and proper cleaning agents at our
storefront location. All natural stone products should be initially sealed and
periodically resealed. Any natural stone sealer for granite counters may be used and
you'll be amazed how durable real top grade granite is to maintain with just a wet rag.
Edging of granite slab is selected by customer before installation.
How do you guys get the smallest seam possible where two slab kitchen
countertop panels meet?. Well obviously a good fit and straight cuts are key during
the fabrication process based upon your kitchen countertop measurements. Often we can
quote you on using a larger granite slab to perform a seamless counter cutout, as these
are always the most desirable. Our trained installation staff and stone cutters are
experts at matching granite grain seams using automated and manual precision cutting
systems in our workshop.
